Musical Director

Andy King

Originally from York, Andy has sung in multiple groups across different genres, and can also play the piano. His first exposure to barbershop was via YouTube in 2009 when he stumbled across Crossroads singing Lucky Old Sun. Then again around 2012 through his mum and sister who sing in the ladies chorus Main Street Sound.

In 2015 he moved to the Stockport area. Having sung in different styles, he decided to explore barbershop for himself. After Googling “barbershop chorus near Stockport,” he came to his first Harmony Revival rehearsal in Autumn 2016 and joined soon after, singing tenor.

In 2018 he went to an open rehearsal in Bolton, for the Cottontown Chorus, and joined them as well. Initially he sang tenor there too, before becoming Section Leader for the lead part; a role he still holds today. He’s gone on to win national male chorus gold with Cottontown in 2023 and 2025, as well as national mixed chorus gold in 2019 with A Kind Of Magic. This was a chorus combined of Cottontown and the ladies chorus Amersham A Cappella.

He also sings lead in the quartet Meridian, and won the national male quartet bronze in 2025.

Andy became the Musical Director of Harmony Revival in January 2026, almost 10 years after first joining.

Away from barbershop he has been married to his wife Elspeth since 2015. They welcome a daughter, Immy, in 2020; and then a son, Toby, in 2025. He is a member of Poynton Baptist Church and regularly plays in worship band on Sundays. He is a keen gardener and enjoys buying plants he has no room for! He also loves cricket and tennis, and plays for Hazel Grove Tennis Club.
